2018's Best Bits

With just one working week left of 2018, I’m looking back at the last 12 months and reminding myself of what a great year its been for Bea & Bloom. This has been my busiest year so far, and really discovered exactly what it is that I want for the business. I’ve worked with some wonderful clients and met lots of lovely people along the way, and even ticked off a few projects of my own. These are just a few of my highlights from the last year:

Client Work:

This logo design for one of my earlier branding clients, Vanessa Jaclyn Photography. I tried a slightly new (at the time) drawing style for this one, and I really loved how it turned out. There was also a truly beautiful story behind this business, and I loved having the opportunity to incorporate that in to the design.

This floral design was inspired by Kaytelyn’s love for capturing true love and memories that last a life time. After researching the meanings of various flowers (which is one of my favourite topics), we settled on the forget-me-not flower to get this message across.

This branding project featured my all time favourite, eucalyptus foliage. I loved the simplicity and classic style of this one, and that lovely soft green colour palette.

MJ Mendoza’s new elegant, floral theme brand identity was definitely a favourite for me this year. I also got to work on Monica’s website design and I so enjoyed seeing everything come together with her beautiful photography.

Hands have always been a subject matter I’ve struggled to draw, so I was particularly proud of how this one turned out for Analy-photo. The hands were featured to symbolise Analy’s passion for her business, along with mountains and pine trees to represent her and her clients’ love for the great outdoors.

I worked with Laura for several months during the build up to the launch her new Wedding cake business. I loved getting to know Laura and see her business grow from simply an idea to what it is now: The Greenhouse Cakerie. And I of course loved designing her brand new logo, and not just because it involved some lovely foliage.

And here’s a few sneak peeks at some projects I’ve been working on that I haven’t been able to share in full yet (I’ll be adding them to the blog and portfolio in 2019!)

Personal Projects

I completed The 100 Day project earlier this year, with a drawing each day for a hundred days. I experimented with a few new styes, found a few new favourite subject matters, and probably drew far too many plants! You can see all of my drawings on instagram with the hashtag #100daysbbdraws

Speaking of plants… I created a few botanical illustrations that have inspired an idea for a new project in 2019 (more on that later!)

I also started a new travel illustration series inspired by some of my favourite places we’ve visited, which I’m hoping to continue with some trips we’re planning for next year.

Life & Love

Me and Jamie have had a busy year working on the renovations of our house (along with a LOT of help from my Mum & Dad!) Our deadline of Easter was quickly delayed to September, and then Christmas… and now we’re going with “some time in 2019”!

It may be taking a lot longer than we had hoped, but what we have finished is looking amazing and we couldn’t be happier with it. Both of the bedrooms are finished, as well as the bathroom, and the kitchen is well underway. But my personal favourite spot in the whole house is definitely my new studio up in the loft. The room was finished back in May and I have loved working up here ever since. You can see the full tour of the room in this blog post.

With all the house renovations, we haven’t had time to fit much in this year (which we’re hoping to make up for with a few trips away in 2019 and 2020!) but we did celebrate our one year wedding anniversary with a photo shoot with our lovely friends at White Stag Weddings and a few days in the Cotswolds.
You can see all of our anniversary photos here, and read a bit about our trip away here.

So that sums up my 2018! Next week I’ll be sharing some fo my goals for next year and talking about some of the projects I’ve got planned for 2019.

Thanks so much for following along this year!
