K.Hice Photography - Logo & Branding
I am so thrilled to reveal this new branding project today! This has been one of my favourite projects to date, and Kaytelyn has been an absolute joy to work with. There's a lovely story behind this one, so read on for more on the whole design process.
As always, we got started with the Branding questionnaire, which allows me to get to know my clients and the stories behind the businesses. Kaytelyn gave me some excellent in-depth answers and I had a vision of where this project would go right from the start.
This quote in particular from Kaytelyn's responses really stood out to me and instantly inspired an idea:
"I just love the idea that someday my photos will be in someones home or in an album and when they are much older or their memories are fading they can look back at those images and be right back in that moment."
How beautiful is that? Kaytelyn had also expressed a wish to have florals included in her new branding, so I combined these two ideas together and started researching in to the meanings of flowers. I discovered that forget-me-nots symbolise true love and memories, which just completely summed up everything Kaytelyn was passionate about. Forget-me-nots are usually a blue/purple colour so that wasn't quite going to work with the palette we had in mind but the shape of them was definitely going to feature in the brand. Peonies are also a life-long favourite of Kaytelyn's so we included those as well to add a bit more of her personality in to the brand.
I brought all of these ideas together and created Kaytelyn's mood board, which she was completely thrilled with and I immediately got started on the sketches.
Together we picked out a few favourites of the sketches, I got to work on the floral illustrations, and then developed the ideas in to logo concepts for Kaytelyn to choose from. This is absolutely my favourite part of the process as I get to work on the drawings and see everything come together. Sometimes when I take everything in to Illustrator, one of my ideas from the sketches stage doesn't quite work. In this case it was sketch number 2 (which was one we had picked as favourite), it looked lovely as a sketch but wasn't working as a developed concept. Its a shame when we have to let go of an idea but its interesting seeing what works and doesn't work, and in the end we ended up with a concept we love much more!
We both agreed on the bottom right option as our favourite, so next up was adding some colour and creating the secondary logo & submarks to match. This of course involved more pretty florals and one of my favourite colour palettes to date! I also created a more landscape version of the main logo as the original layout wouldn't fit in the website banner.
I've absolutely adored every step of this project and am so thrilled with the results. You can see the full branding in action over on Kaytelyn's website, where you can also see her beautiful photography (which you should definitely go and check out, its stunning!)
Finally, here's the sweetest review from Kaytelyn herself:
"Working with Emma has been an absolute dream! I never thought I could find someone who would take as much of an interest in who I was as a person and as a brand as Emma has. Her passion and enthusiasm for creating something beautiful and cohesive that actually has a deeper meaning for my business is something that I can’t fully express my gratitude for. There is such great care and attention put into every detail which makes this branding process so enjoyable! Emma truly makes your brand comes to life as she weaves your thoughts and vision into a tangible expression of who you are and the legacy you want your brand to represent. I can’t thank her enough for what she’s created for my business and can’t wait to continue to work with her in the future!"
