Vanessa Jaclyn - Logo & Branding
I have another branding reveal for you today! This time for Vanessa Jaclyn, an intimate portrait & couples photographer from LA, with a great passion for life and "capturing the moments that make you, you". There's a lot of meaning behind this one, and a lovely story behind the business.
We started off with the branding questionnaire, in which Vanessa told me all about her story and the events that inspired her wonderful business venture. After the devastating loss of her husband, Vanessa found joy again when she picked up his camera and began to capture everything that made her feel alive. This new passion went on to be the basis of her photography business and Vanessa now works with couples to capture their love and the things them make them unique.
Vanessa's story is obviously a very special one, and it was important to me to make that, and her husband, a part of her new branding. We chatted about the things that were important to them as a couple, and narrowed things down to adventure, the great outdoors and nature. I used these ideas to put together Vanessa's mood board:
Vanessa loved the feel of the mood board, and particularly loved the word 'Alive' that features in the bottom centre square. So that became an essential element to the branding.
Next, I worked on some quick doodles of ways to incorporate the themes we had talked about, and Vanessa narrowed down a few of her favourites, and I then started to develop these in to more detailed illustrations to use in her logo. We couldn't decide between florals or mountains, so took both forward to the next stage to see how they'd look as finished logos. The florals I used are native to Vanessa's husband's favourite beach, where they would frequently travel together.
After a few tweaks and experimenting with the different elements, we settled on the floral option, with a simple triangle shape to represent the mountains. I paired the illustration with an elegant serif type face and put together a few variations of the logo, including some with Vanessa's full name, and some with her initials. The version with Vanessa's initials was her favourite so this became the Primary logo, and we kept the others to use as the secondary logo and submarks.
When it came to creating the graphics for Vanessa's branding, we went back to "alive", as well as her lovely tag-line "Capturing your raw, sacred, soulful moments" and I created a set of triangle graphics in the same style as her submark, using those words. These triangles feature on the bottom of each page of the website and the words work so well with her beautiful photography.
Finally I created Vanessa's business cards and social media imagery to match her new branding, using one of her favourite couple's photographs.
The new branding is now live on Vanessa's website www.vanessajaclyn.com and everything has come together perfectly. Go take a look, say Hi and have a browse through her beautiful gallery of images.
