January Sketchbook Pages

I made it a goal this year to get back to putting pen (and pencil) to paper again. I’ve been working mainly digitally for a few years now, and while I love working on the iPad (and its saved me a lot of money on pens!) there’s just something about traditional materials that can’t be replicated.

I treated myself to one of my favourite sketchbooks (these ones from Ryman - I used them all throughout college and uni) and some new pens and pencils, and made a start. I’ve used some of the beautiful reference books I have on my shelves, and photos that I’ve taken at gardens over the last couple of years. I also spent a day at Kew Gardens and drew from life (which was SO fun)

I’ve been particularly enjoying using a simple black brush pen for rough sketches, and coloured pencils for something a little more detailed.

I’ll be using these pages as inspiration for my next vector pack for the shop. And of course I’ll be carrying on with the sketchbook for the rest of the year, so I’ll be back in a few weeks with some more pages to share.
